GMDSS Restricted Operator's Certificate Course
Description:
(Regulation IV/2 and Section A-IV/2 of the STCW Convention and Code 1978, as amended)
The aim of this training course is to prepare the seafarer with the ability to use VHF radio equipment on vessels, during emergency and/or routine communication with the necessary knowledge, understanding and proficiency to protect and maintain their own safety and that of others at sea, in accordance with international regulations IV/2 and Section A-IV/2 of the STCW Convention. Candidate will upon completion be able to operate the VHF radio and associated equipment required for GMDSS. Those equipped with VHF must be able to:
- Provide radio services in the event of an emergency.
- Communicate distress immediately.
- Assist with Search & Rescue nationwide.
- Respond to others in distress.
- Get regular weather updates.
- Maintain communication in safe and secure manner while out at sea
- Transmit and receive information using GMDSS equipment
- Be knowledgeable of the phonetic alphabet
